Executive Summary This white paper covers the HP-UX software solution for the new HP VISUALIZE UNIX® Workstations: the B1000, C3000, and J5000. New software is required for HP-UX 10.20 and HP-UX 11.0 to enable these systems. In addition, with the introduction of these new workstations, HP-UX 10.20 has some new packaging conventions and recommendations, including using the Quality Pack as the HP VISUALIZE UNIX® workstation patching solution. The HP-UX 10.20 software solution for the B1000, C3000 and J5000 is quite simple: A new set of Additional Core Enhancements (ACE) has been released on 10.20 to enable these new workstations. The new ACE is completely binary compatible with the previous one and should involve no requalification. This paper covers the content of these ACEs as of June, 1999. Introduction In June, 1997 Hewlett-Packard introduced the HP-UX 10.20 ACE program. The objective was to introduce new HP UNIX® Workstation hardware on a stable base operating system, with the minimum software necessary to enable the new hardware. Binary compatibility is also a very integral part of the ACE program, giving customers "nobump" solutions to deploy the latest, highest-performance HP workstations. Future 11.0 ACE HP-UX 11.0 ACE 9906 HP-UX 10.20 HP-UX 10.20 The ACE 9906 Enhancements are completely compatible with all versions of 10.20. ACE 9906 can be added to non-ACE 10.20, or it can be used to upgrade any previous version of HP-UX 10.20 ACE. HP-UX 11.0 does not currently run on the B1000, C3000 and J5000 systems. We expect to release a set of ACEs for HP-UX 11.0 in the fall of 1999 that will support the new hardware in these new workstations. HP-UX 11.0 presently works on all of our older workstations, including the B132L+, B180, C200, C240 and J2240. The latest version of ACE is called "HP-UX 10.20 Additional Core Enhancements for June 1999." The shorthand name is ACE 9906. The purpose of ACE 9906 is to enable the HP VISUALIZE UNIX® workstations, the B1000, C3000 and J5000. Introduction
In June, 1997 Hewlett-Packard introduced the HP-UX 10.20 ACE program.
The objective
was to introduce new HP UNIX® Workstation hardware on a stable base operating
system, with the minimum software necessary to enable the new hardware.
Binary
compatibility is also a very integral part of the ACE program, giving customers “no-

ACE 9906
HP-UX 10.20
The ACE 9906 Enhancements are completely compatible with all versions of 10.20.
ACE
9906 can be added to non-ACE 10.20, or it can be used to upgrade any previous version of
HP-UX 10.20 ACE.
HP-UX 11.0 does not currently run on the B1000, C3000 and J5000 systems.
