Glossary To help you understand the main technical terms and abbreviations used in this booklet and take full advantage of the feature on your mobile phone, here are a few definitions. Call Barring Ability to restrict outgoing and incoming calls. Call Divert Ability to reroute calls to another number. Call waiting Ability to inform users that they have an incoming call when engaged on another call. GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) GPRS guaranties continuous connection to the Internet for mobile phone and computer users. It is based on the Global System for Mobile Communication(GSM) circuit-switched cellular phone connections and the Short Message Service(SMS). GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) International standard for cellular communication, guaranteeing compatibility between the various network operators. GSM covers most European countries and many other parts of the world. Caller ID Service allowing subscribers to view or block the telephone numbers of callers. Multiparty Calls Ability to establish a conference call involving up to five additional parties. 92 Glossary Phone Password Security code used to unlock the phone when you have selected the option to lock it automatically each time it switches on. Roaming Use of your phone when you are outside your home area (when traveling for example). SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) Card containing a chip with all the information required to operate the phone (network and memory information, as well as the subscriber's personal data). The SIM card fits into a small slot on the back of the phone and is protected by the battery. SMS (Short Message Service) Network service sending and receiving messages to and from another subscriber without having to speak to the correspondent. The message created or received can be displayed, received, edited or sent.
