Problem Cause/Solution A No sound when Off is selected for Shutter sound in Sound settings in the 75, the shutter is setup menu. No sound is produced with some shooting 111, released. modes and settings, even when On is selected. 164 AF-assist illuminator does not light. Off is selected for the AF assist option in the setup menu. AFassist illuminator may not light depending on the position of the focus area or the current scene mode, even when Auto is selected. 111, 163 Images appear smeared. The lens is dirty. Clean the lens. 182 Colors are unnatural. White balance or hue is not adjusted properly. 39, 126 Randomly spaced bright pixels ("noise") appear in image. The subject is dark and the shutter speed is too slow or ISO sensitivity is too high. Noise can be reduced by: • Using the flash • Specifying a lower ISO sensitivity setting 27, 56 134 Bright spots appear in image. When shooting at a slow shutter speed in multiple exposure mode, noise (bright spots) may appear in saved images. - Images are too dark (underexposed). • The flash window is blocked. • The subject is beyond the range of the flash. • Adjust exposure compensation. • Increase ISO sensitivity. • The subject is backlit. Use the flash or the Backlighting scene mode. 25 197 65 134 27, 39 Images are too bright Adjust exposure compensation. 65 (overexposed). Unexpected results when flash set to V (auto with redeye reduction). Use any shooting mode other than Night portrait, and change the flash mode to any setting other than V (auto with red-eye reduction/red-eye reduction) and try taking the picture again. 56, 73 Skin tones are not softened. • Under some shooting conditions, facial skin tones may not be softened. • For images containing four or more faces, try using Skin softening in the playback menu. 43 85, 111 190 Technical Notes Troubleshooting
