N I Thread Breaking Cause: Thread breaking may occur for any of the aforementioned reasons, Thread tension too tight. Use of inferior or knotty thread. Race being dry or odd threads jamming the race. Thread having slipped off the reel. Remedy: See page 41. Adjust upper and lower tensions in accordance with Sections 13 and 14. Only use topquality sewing machine thread or a good quality of silk. Cleanondoiltheracein accordancewith Sections 21 and 22. Do not place the reel on the vertical reel pin but use the horizontal reel holder (furnished at an extra charge). 42 Tightness of Machine Cause: Drive belt too iong and slips off, or too short causing excessive pressure on the bearings. Shuttle race dry or obstructed by odd thread. Mechanism clogged up by inferior oil. Feeder jams in the needle plate. Winder engaged while sewing. Thread looped up between balance wheel and bushing. 43 I Remedy: Shorten belt or insert a piece for length ening. Cut the belt straight. Clean and oil shuttle race. Use only PFAFF sewing machine oi never salad oil or glycerine. Unscrewbothfeeddogand needle plah and readjust properly. Disengage winder. Remove and unwind thread with the aic of a thin needle.
