messages and status information related to new functionality in the OS may not display correctly. When in OS download mode, the Automatic Power Down™ (APD™) feature does not function. If you leave your device in download mode for an extended time before you actually start the downloading process, your batteries may become depleted. You will then need to replace the depleted batteries with new batteries before downloading. If you accidentally interrupt the transfer before it is complete, you will need to reinstall the OS. Again, remember to install new batteries before downloading. Backing Up Your Unit Before an Operating System Installation When you install an OS upgrade, the installation process: • Deletes all user-defined variables (in both RAM and the user data archive), functions, programs, and folders. • Could delete all Flash applications. • Resets all system variables and modes to their original factory settings. This is equivalent to using the MEMORY screen to reset all memory. To retain any existing variables or Flash applications, do the following before installing the upgrade: • Important: Install new batteries. • Transmit the variables or Flash applications to another device. - or - Connectivity 732
