You should only change this option when instructed to by customer service and when you are experiencing one of the following issues: Issue When using an extension phone, "Line in Use" will not appear in the original handset display. Problem Your phone should detect when another extension phone is used. You place a caller on hold. You pick up an extension handset and finish your conversation. You hang up the call from your extension handset, but the original station where you placed the caller on hold does not release the line and therefore, thinks you still have a party on hold.
