Telephone Telephone* At a glance The concept After the mobile phone is paired once with the vehicle, the mobile phone can be operated using the iDrive, the steering wheel buttons and spo‐ ken instructions. A paired mobile phone is automatically detected as soon as it is located inside the vehicle, when the ignition is switched on. Up to four mobile phones can be paired. Using the mobile phone while driving Make entries only when traffic and road conditions allow. Do not hold the mobile phone in your hand while you are driving; use the hands-free system instead. If you do not ob‐ serve this precaution, you can endanger the ve‐ hicle occupants and other road users.◀ Do not operate a mobile phone that is connected to the vehicle on the mobile phone keypad, as this may lead to a malfunction. Pairing/unpairing the mobile phone Requirements ▷ The mobile phone is suitable. ▷ The mobile phone is ready for operation. ▷ Bluetooth is activated in the vehicle, refer to page 205, and on the mobile phone. ▷ Bluetooth presettings may need to be made on the mobile phone, e.g., for a connection without confirmation or visibility, refer to the mobile phone operating instructions. ▷ A number with at least four and a maximum of 16 digits is defined as the Bluetooth pass‐ key. It is only required once for pairing. ▷ The ignition is switched on. Snap-in adapter* The snap-in adapter is used to: ▷ Hold the mobile phone. ▷ Recharge the battery. ▷ Connect the mobile phone to an outside an‐ tenna of the vehicle. This provides for better network reception and consistent sound quality. Pairing and connecting Pairing the mobile phone To avoid becoming distracted and posing an unnecessary hazard both to your own vehi‐ cle's occupants and to other road users, only pair the mobile phone while the vehicle is sta‐ tionary.◀ Pair the vehicle entirely on the front or rear Con‐ trol Display. 1. Using the mobile phone while driving
