1. Attach the adapter to the wheel lug. 2. Unscrew the lug bolt. Remove the adapter after screwing the lug bolt back on. Have maintenance performed in the following situations. Corresponding Check Control mes‐ sages will be displayed on the instrument panel and the Control Display. ▷ The high-voltage battery has reached the end of its service life due to a defect. ▷ The high-voltage battery has only limited power available. ▷ The high-voltage battery's maximum state of charge drops below a certain value. Note Your vehicle's hybrid system is equipped with a 12 volt battery and a high-voltage battery. The 12 volt battery supplies the electricity to the ve‐ hicle electrical system. The high-voltage battery supplies the electric motor. Since the electric motor starts the combustion engine, it is not possible to drive the vehicle when the high-voltage battery is discharged. Starting aid, refer to page 244, is provided via the connections of the starting aid terminals. Maintenance and repairs Have maintenance and repair work per‐ formed only by a service center or a workshop that works according to BMW specifications with appropriately trained personnel. Other‐ wise, there is the risk of fatal injury from electric shock due to the hybrid system's high volt‐ age.◀ Replacement The high-voltage battery's function is geared towards your vehicle's service life. However, a defect in the high-voltage battery can make a replacement necessary. A Check Control message in the instrument panel indicates that the high-voltage battery must be replaced: High-voltage battery replacement Have the high-voltage battery replaced only by a qualified workshop that works accord‐ ing to BMW specifications with appropriately trained personnel.◀ Discharge of the high-voltage battery Long vehicle immobilization periods can cause the discharge of the high-voltage battery. Fol‐ low the notes on laying up the car out of use if the vehicle is to be parked for a longer period of time. Determining faulty batteries ▷ Discharged 12 volt battery: the ignition can‐ not be switched on. ▷ Discharged high voltage battery: the ignition can be switched on. The combustion engine cannot be started. Starting aid is available via the starting aid ter‐ minal. Jump starting The vehicle can be started via the connections of the starting aid, refer to page 244. Removing
1.
Attach the adapter to the wheel lug.
2.
Unscrew the lug bolt.
Remove the adapter after screwing the lug bolt
back on.
Battery
Note
Your vehicle's hybrid system is equipped with a
12 volt battery and a high-voltage battery. The
12 volt battery supplies the electricity to the ve‐
hicle electrical system. The high-voltage battery
supplies the electric motor.
Since the electric motor starts the combustion
engine, it is not possible to drive the vehicle
when the high-voltage battery is discharged.
Starting aid, refer to page 244,
is provided via
the connections of the starting aid terminals.
Maintenance and repairs

that works according to BMW specifications
with appropriately trained personnel. Other‐
