- 9. Tightenthe wheel nuts firmly in a criss-cross sequence as shown. A CAUTION: 8. Lower the vehicle by turning the jack hanale counterclockwise. Lower the jack completely. Incorrect wheel nuts or improperly tightened wheel nuts can cause the wheel to become loose and even comeoff. This could lead to an accident. Be sure touse the correctwheel nuts. If you have to replace them, sure to get the right kind. be Stop somewhere as soon as you can and have the nuts tightened with torque wrench to 100 lb-ft a (140 N-m). 5-32
