Instruments and Controls 4-17 Speedometer The speedometer shows the vehicle's speed in both kilometers per hour (km/h) and miles per hour (mph). For vehicles that have the navigation system, see your Navigation System manual for more information. Fuel Gage Tachometer The tachometer displays the engine speed in revolutions per minute (rpm). Notice: If the engine is operated with the tachometer in the shaded warning area, the vehicle could be damaged, and the damages would not be covered by the vehicle warranty. Do not operate the engine with the tachometer in the shaded warning area. The CTS-V tachometer has tracer lights that follow the movement of the tachometer indicator. The tracer lights also flash when it is time to up-shift to avoid the engine speed limit. See Automatic Transmission on page 8‑26 or Manual Transmission on page 8‑30 for more information. Odometer The odometer shows how far the vehicle has been driven, in either kilometers or miles. If this vehicle has to have a new odometer installed, the new one may read the correct mileage. This is because the vehicle computer has stored the mileage in memory. When the ignition is on, the fuel gage tells you about how much fuel you have left in your tank. An arrow on the fuel gage indicates the side of the vehicle the fuel door is on. When the indicator nears empty, the low fuel light comes on. There is still a little fuel left in the vehicle, but the fuel tank should be filled soon. Trip Odometer The trip odometer can record the number of miles or kilometers traveled for up to two trips. The trip odometer is part of the Driver Information Center (DIC), for more information see Driver Information Center (DIC) on page 4‑31.
