MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE 187 Coolant Level When additional coolant is needed to maintain the proper level, it should be added to the coolant recovery bottle. Points to Remember • Do not overfill the bottle. • Check coolant freeze point in the coolant bottle. If antifreeze needs to be added, contents of the coolant bottle also must be protected against freezing. • If frequent coolant additions are required, or if the level in the bottle does not drop when the engine cools, the cooling system should be pressure tested for leaks. Coolant Recovery Bottle The coolant recovery bottle provides a visual method for checking the coolant level without removing the pressure cap. With the engine warmed up, the coolant level should be between MIN and MAX on the coolant recovery bottle. • Maintain coolant concentration at 50% HOAT ethylene glycol engine coolant (minimum) and distilled water for proper corrosion protection of your engine which contains aluminum components. 7
