3. Place the end of the spanner wrench on the nut and then turn the wheel wrench counterclockwise to loosen the nut holding the tire to the carrier. The tools you'll be using to finish changing a flat tire are the following: 4. Pull off the tire retainer plate and set it aside. Remove the spare tire from the wheel carrier. 5.
