MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT 107 WARNING POTENTIAL HAZARD Improper cleaning of the spark arrester. WHAT CAN HAPPEN Could injure the eyes. Could cause burns. Could cause carbon monoxide poisoning, possibly leading to death. Could start a fire. HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD When cleaning the spark arrester: Always let the exhaust system cool prior to touching exhaust components. Do not start the engine when cleaning the exhaust system. Throttle Cable There must be free play in the throttle mechanism. Measure the distance the throttle lever moves before the engine begins to pick up speed. żAdjust the engine idling speed before adjusting the throttle lever free play. (see Carburetor Section) To adjust throttle free play: 1. Slide the rubber sleeves back to expose the throttle cable adjuster. 2. Loosen the lock nut, then turn the adjuster to obtain the correct free play. (1 a 4 mm or 0.04 a 0.16 in.) 3. Tighten the locknut and reinstall the sleeve. Other checks: Check the throttle cable for kinks and signs of wear that could cause stretching or failure. Lubricate the throttle cable with a commercially available lubricant to prevent premature wear and corrosion. NOTE j

Throttle Cable
There must be free play in the throttle mechanism.

To adjust throttle free play:
1.

throttle cable adjuster.
