Upshifting Downshifting 2 When driving The initial shift range in "S" mode is automatically set to "4", "5", "6" or "7" according to vehicle speed. However, the initial shift range may be set to "2" or "3" if the AI-SHIFT has operated while the shift lever was in the "D" position. (→P. 170) n Shift ranges and their functions Meter display S2 - S8 S1 Function A gear in the range between "1" and the selected gear is automatically chosen depending on vehicle speed and driving conditions Setting the gear at "1" A lower shift range will provide greater engine braking forces than a higher shift range. n Operation of the air conditioning system in Eco drive mode Eco drive mode controls the heating/cooling operations and fan speed of the air conditioning system to enhance fuel efficiency.
