MAINTENANCE Batteries Battery Inspections/Maintenance Check Battery Fluid (Flooded Batteries) Gel batteries are maintenance-free batteries. They do not have fill wells. On flooded batteries, check the fluid level often. Add only distilled water. Tap water contains minerals that are harmful to a battery. NOTICE: Never charge batteries if plates are exposed above the water level. Unless the plates are exposed before charging, distilled water should be added to a battery after charging. If the plates are exposed, add just enough water to cover the plates. Fully charge the batteries, then recheck the fluid level. (continued on next page) 121
