Troubleshooting 6. Connect the other end of the black (-) jumper cable to the negative (-) terminal of the discharged battery. 4. Disconnect the red (+) jumper cable from the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery. 12. Install the right side cover and the shroud. Engine constantly backfires or misfires 1. 2. 3. Faulty spark plugs: Replace the spark plugs. Clogged fuel system: See "Fuel system" above. Malfunctioning T.O.R.S.: See "Electrical system" above. Insufficient coolant: Add coolant. Connect the other end of the black (–)
jumper cable to the negative (–) terminal
of the discharged battery.
CAUTION:
ECS00670
Do not reverse the connections! Make
sure that all connections are secure and
correct before attempting to start the en-
gine. Any wrong connection could dam-
age the electrical system.

Start the engine.
8.
Disconnect the black (–) jumper cable
from the negative (–) terminal of the dis-
charged battery.
9.
Disconnect the black (–) jumper cable
from the negative (–) terminal of the bat-
tery used to jump start the engine.
10.
Disconnect the red (+) jumper cable from
the positive (+) terminal of the battery
used to jump start the engine.
11.
Disconnect the red (+) jumper cable from
the positive (+) terminal of the discharged
battery.
12.
Install the right side cover and the shroud.
Electric starter does not operate or
operates slowly
1.
Engine stop switch is pushed in: Pull it
out.
2.
Faulty wire connections: Check connec-
tions or ask a Yamaha dealer to inspect.
3.
Discharged battery: Charge battery or
see “Discharged battery” above.
4.
Seized engine: Seizure is caused by poor
lubrication, inadequate fuel, or an air
leak—. Ask a Yamaha dealer to inspect.
Engine power is low
1.
Low coolant temperature indicator light is
flashing: Warm the engine up.

Faulty spark plugs: Clean or replace the
