Periodic maintenance and adjustment Batteries produce explosive gases. Keep sparks, flame, cigarettes, etc. away. Ventilate when charging or using in an enclosed space. Always shield your eyes when working near batteries. KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. Charge or have a Yamaha dealer charge the battery as soon as possible if it seems to have discharged. Keep in mind that the battery tends to discharge more quickly if the snowmobile is equipped with electrical accessories. EWS00610 1. Headlight beam adjusting screw ESU12290 Fittings and fasteners Check the tightness of the fittings and fasteners. Tighten in proper sequence and torque if necessary. ESU13890 WARNING G Battery The battery is located behind the right side cover. (See page 49 for right side cover removal procedures.) This model is equipped with a VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) battery. There is no need to check the electrolyte or to add distilled water. However, the battery lead connections need to be checked and, if necessary, tightened. EWS00540 G G G G Never smoke around the battery while it is being charged. Sparks may ignite the hydrogen gas created by the battery. Disconnect the negative lead first, then the positive lead from the battery. Connect the positive lead first, then the negative lead to the battery when installing the battery. Never connect the battery to or disconnect it from the snowmobile while it is being charged. Sparks may ignite the hydrogen gas created by the battery. Make sure that the battery terminals are tight. WARNING Battery electrolyte is poisonous and dangerous. It contains sulfuric acid and can cause severe burns. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. ANTIDOTE: G EXTERNAL: Flush with water. G INTERNAL: Drink large quantities of water or milk. Follow with milk of magnesia, beaten egg, or vegetable oil. Call physician immediately. G EYES: Flush with water for 15 minutes and get prompt medical attention. ECS00843 NOTICE G G To charge a VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) battery, a special (constantvoltage) battery charger is required. Using a conventional battery charger will damage the battery. Do not charge the battery quickly. 75
