Storing your MacBook If you are going to store your MacBook for an extended period of time, keep it in a cool location (ideally, 71° F or 22° C) and discharge the battery to 50 percent or less. When storing your MacBook for longer than five months, discharge the battery to approximately 50 percent. To maintain the capacity of the battery, recharge the battery to 50 percent every six months or so. Cleaning your MacBook When cleaning the outside of your MacBook and its components, first shut down your MacBook and unplug the power adapter. Then use a damp, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the computer's exterior. Avoid getting moisture in any openings. Do not spray liquid directly on the computer.
