Adaptec Storage Management Software User's Guide Windows XP, Windows 2000 & Windows NT The broadcaster collects events from the controller and records them to files in the c:\program files\adaptec\storage manager folder for use by Storage Manager. Additionally, events are sent to the Windows Event Viewer or e-mailed as specified in the Event Broadcasting window. Installing the Broadcaster During installation, the broadcaster is copied to the c:\program files\storage manager folder by default as a Windows service and runs automatically whenever the system is started. This allows events to be gathered and recorded without user intervention. Stopping and Restarting the Broadcaster The broadcaster is a Windows service; therefore, it must be managed from one of the Windows service management applications. ■ The broadcaster can be controlled using the Services Control Panel. To access a service, click Services in the Control Panel folder. ■ Highlight Storage Manager Broadcaster in the Services list. Then, click Start or Stop to start or stop the broadcaster service. ■ The broadcaster can also be started or stopped from a command line prompt by using the NET command as follows: net start dptserv Starts the broadcaster net stop dptserv Stops the broadcaster Viewing Events Events can be viewed either through the Event Log Display window in Storage Manager (refer to Event Log on page 3-32) or the Windows Event Viewer. To run the Event Viewer, select Event Viewer from the Administrative Tools group on the Start menu. The Event Viewer enables you to view events that have been placed in the System, Security, and Application logs. To view controller events, click Log > Application. 3-36
