What Can I Do with This Machine? Users in the U.S.A. Pre-Installation Requirements for Canon Facsimile Equipment A. Location Supply a suitable table, cabinet, or desk. See p. 13-2 for the machine's weight and dimensions. B. Order Information 1. Only a single line, touch-tone or rotary telephone set is to be used. 2. Order an RJ11-C modular jack (USOC code), which should be installed by the telephone company. If the RJ11-C jack is not present, installation cannot occur. 3. Order a regular voice grade line or the equivalent from your telephone company's business representative. Use one line per machine. DDD (DIRECT DISTANCE DIAL) LINE -orIDDD (INTERNATIONAL DIRECT DISTANCE DIAL) LINE IF YOU COMMUNICATE OVERSEAS Canon recommends an individual line following industry standards, e.g. the 2500 (Touch Tone) or 500 (Rotary/Pulse Dial) telephones. A dedicated extension off a PBX machine without "Call Waiting" can be used with the machine. Key telephone systems are not recommended because they send nonstandard signals to individual telephones for ringing and special codes, which may cause a fax error. This machine is not supported on Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP). C. Power Requirements This equipment should be connected to a standard 120-volt AC, three-wire grounded outlet only. Do not connect this machine to an outlet or power line shared with other appliances that cause "electrical noise." Air conditioners, electric typewriters, copiers, and machines of this sort generate electrical noise which often interferes with communications equipment and the sending and receiving of documents. xxv

What Can I Do w±th Th±s Mach±ne?
Users in the U.S.A.
Pre-Installation Requirements for Canon Facsimile Equipment
A.
Location
Supply a su±table table, cab±net, or desk. See p. 13-2 for the mach±ne’s we±ght and d±mens±ons.
B.
Order Information
1.
Only a s±ngle l±ne, touch-tone or rotary telephone set ±s to be used.
2.
Order an RJ11-C modular jack (USOC code), wh±ch should be ±nstalled by the telephone
company. If the RJ11-C jack ±s not present, ±nstallat±on cannot occur.
3.
Order a regular vo±ce grade l±ne or the equ±valent from your telephone company’s bus±ness
representat±ve.
Use one l±ne per mach±ne.
DDD (DIRECT DISTANCE DIAL) LINE
-or-
IDDD (INTERNATIONAL DIRECT DISTANCE DIAL) LINE IF YOU COMMUNICATE OVERSEAS
Canon recommends an ±nd±v±dual l±ne follow±ng ±ndustry standards, e.g. the 2500 (Touch Tone) or 500
(Rotary/Pulse D±al) telephones. A ded±cated extens±on off a PBX mach±ne w±thout “Call Wa±t±ng” can
be used w±th the mach±ne. Key telephone systems are not recommended because they send non-
standard s±gnals to ±nd±v±dual telephones for r±ng±ng and spec±al codes, wh±ch may cause a fax error.
Th±s mach±ne ±s not supported on Vo±ce Over Internet Protocol (VOIP).
C.
Power Requirements
Th±s equ±pment should be connected to a standard 120-volt AC, three-w±re grounded outlet
only. Do not connect th±s mach±ne to an outlet or power l±ne shared w±th other appl±ances that
cause “electr±cal no±se.” A±r cond±t±oners, electr±c typewr±ters, cop±ers, and mach±nes of th±s
sort generate electr±cal no±se wh±ch often ±nterferes w±th commun±cat±ons equ±pment and the
send±ng and rece±v±ng of documents.
