Recovering from a Disaster 4. Start the failed server. As the failed server starts, it performs startup diagnostics and locates the tape drive as its boot device. The booting process begins and all boot data is read from the tape. The tape formats and partitions drives. 5. To perform disaster recovery using the bootable CD method, perform the following steps: 1.
