f To adjust the skid shoes: 1. Adjust skid shoesby looseningthesix (threeon eachside) hex nutsand carriagebolts securingthe skid shoesto the auger housing. Referto Figure12. 2. Whileobservingthedistancebetweenthe shaveplateand the ground,adjustthe skidsshoes up or downto achievethe desired shaveplateheight. See Figure12. 3. Makecertainthe entirebottomsurfaceof skid shoesare against the groundto avoidunevenwearon theskid shoes;then tighten nutsand bolts securely. Operatinga snowthrowerequippedwith steelskid shoes may result in damageto naturalstonepaversurfaces(e.g.sandstone,bluestone,limestone). Forinformationon availablepolymerskid shoes, call 1-800-4MY-HOME. Figure 11 NOTE:On someengines,a threadedscrewcap will be present insteadof thequarterturn lockingcap. In the instanceof a threadedoil cap/dipstick,DO NOTscrewthecap/dipstickin to check.Checkthe oil by restingthecap/dipstickon thethreads,butnot screwingit in. 3. Testing Auger Drive Control 1. Whenthe augercontrol is releasedand in the disengaged"up" position,the cable shouldhavevery little slack. It shouldNOT be tight. Referto Figure13. 2. Ina well-ventilatedarea,startthe snow throwerengineas instructeidnthe Operationsectionof this manual.Makesurethe throttleis set inthe FASTposition. 3. Whilestandingin theoperator'sposition(behindthe snow thrower),engagethe auger. 4. Allowtheaugerto remainengagedforapproximateltyen(10)secondsbeforereleasingthe augercontrol.Repeathisseveratlimes. 11

Thesnow throwerskid shoesare adjustedupwardat thefactory for
shippingpurposes.Adjustthemdownwardpriortooperatingthesnow
thrower.
It is not recommended
that youoperatethis snowthroweron gravel
as
it
can easilypick up and throwloosegravel,causingpersonal
injury
or damageto the snowthrowerandsurroundingproperty.
Forclosesnowremoval
ona smoothsurface,
adjusttheskidshoessothat
theshaveplateonthebottomofthe augerhousingisjustofftheground.

ground,adjusttheskidsshoesupordowntoachievethedesired
shaveplateheight.SeeFigure12.
3.
Makecertaintheentirebottomsurfaceofskidshoesareagainst
the groundto avoidunevenwearon theskid shoes;then tighten
nutsandboltssecurely.
Operatinga snowthrowerequippedwith steelskidshoesmayresult
indamageto naturalstonepaversurfaces(e.g.sandstone,blue-
stone,limestone). Forinformationonavailablepolymerskidshoes,
