Cable Diagnostics Commands 12-1 test cable-diagnostics This command is used to start the cable diagnostics to test the status and length of copper cables. test cable-diagnostics interface INTERFACE-ID [,|-] Parameters interface INTERFACE-ID , - Specifies the interface ID. (Optional) Specifies a series of interfaces, or separate a range of interfaces from a previous range. No space before and after the comma. (Optional) Specifies a range of interfaces. No space before and after the hyphen. Default None. Command Mode EXEC Mode. Command Default Level Level: 1. Usage Guideline The command is available for physical port configuration. Cable Diagnostics can help users to detect whether the copper Ethernet port has connectivity problems. Use the test cable-diagnostics command to start the test. The copper port can be in one of the following status: • Open: The cable in the error pair does not have a connection at the specified position. • Short: The cable in the error pair has a short problem at the specified position. • Open or Short: The cable has an open or short problem, but the PHY has no capability to distinguish between them. • Crosstalk: The cable in the error pair has a crosstalk problem at the specified position. • Shutdown: The remote partner is powered off. • Unknown: The test got an unknown status. • OK: The pair or cable has no error. • No cable: The port does not have any cable connection to the remote partner. Example This example shows how to start the cable diagnostics to test the status and length of copper cables. Switch# test cable-diagnostics interface eth1/0/1 Switch# 12-2 show cable-diagnostics This command is used to display the test results for the cable diagnostics. 134
