D-Link DNS-327L User Manual
Section 1 - Product Overview
The D-Link ShareCenter™ DNS-327L is a 2-Bay Cloud Storage. When used with internal SATA drives
1
, it allows you to share
documents, files, and digital media such as music, photos, and video with everyone in your home or office network. Remotely
accessing files through the Internet is also possible using the built-in FTP server, Web File server and the WebDAV protocol.
Whether allowing access locally or over the Internet, you can keep data safe by only giving rights to specific users or groups.
Users can also access their DNS-327L remotely using the mydlink portal, or by using mobile devices with the mydlink Access-
NAS app on a mobile phone or tablet. When configuring the DNS-327L, you can create and assign users and groups to folders
with either read or read/write permissions. This is ideal for an office environment with employee-specific sensitive data, and
for the home where you may want to limit a child’s access to age-appropriate material. The DNS-327L is accessible by any
computer on your network, whether it is a PC or Mac. Your computers can be running Windows, Mac OS X, or even Linux, and
there is no need to install special software.
Back up your music, photos, and video files to the DNS-327L for safekeeping. Then enjoy the benefits of the built-in UPnP AV
media server as you stream digital content to compatible media players
2
, like those in D-Link’s Multimedia product line.
There are four different hard drive modes, Standard, JBOD, RAID 0, and RAID1. This means you can choose the configuration
best suited to your needs. Standard mode creates two separately accessible hard drives. JBOD combines both drives in linear
fashion for maximum space efficiency. RAID 0 combines both drives in a “striped” configuration, which provides the highest
performance when using a Gigabit Ethernet connection. RAID 1 copies one disk and produces a mirrored copy on another,
providing maximum protection. If one drive fails while configured as RAID 1, the unaffected drive continues to function as a
single drive until the failed drive is replaced. The newly-replaced drive will then be re-mirrored, returning you to full protection.
Another benefit of owning the DNS-327L is that it provides access to mydlink Cloud Services, which is available exclusively
to D-Link customers. The mydlink Cloud Service is as a portal for users who would like to access their data from any location.
It gives users the ability to download, upload or delete files and/or folders, plus they can see the status of thier ShareCenter™
Network Storage device from anywhere, anytime via web browser. Also, the DNS-327L has add-on packages to enhance your
experience, including Photo Center, Blog, Transmission, and Audio Streamer among others.
