Installing Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 on Dell PowerEdge 1550 Systems

To install a SCSI driver that is not included on the Windows NT Server 4.0 installation CD, perform
the following steps:
1.
Boot the system from the Windows NT Server 4.0 installation CD or from the first (boot)
diskette in the operating system installation set included with your system.
2.
Press the <²6> key when the following message is displayed:
Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration...
The following message appears:
Setup could not determine the type of one or more mass storage devices
installed in your system, or you have chosen to manually specify an
adapter.
3.
Press <s> to specify an additional device.
4.
On the next screen that appears, use the arrow keys to select
Other
and then press <Enter>.
The setup program prompts you to supply the diskette containing the SCSI driver.
5.
Insert the correct diskette and press <Enter>.
The setup program displays a list of the drivers included on the diskette and prompts you to
select the correct one.
²or systems with an Adaptec 7899 SCSI controller, the correct driver is named
Adaptec
Ultra160 ±amily PCI SCSI Controller (NT 4.0)

²or systems with a PERC 3/DCL controller, the driver is named
PERC 2/SC; 2/DC; PERC 3/QC;

6.
Use the arrow keys to select the correct driver and press <Enter>.
A confirmation screen appears with a list of the drivers to be loaded. Verify that the SCSI driver
you selected on the previous screen is among the drivers listed.
7.
Press <Enter> to continue.
8.
Keep the diskette containing the driver nearby. The setup program will ask for the diskette
containing the SCSI driver once more as the installation proceeds.
