The Dell™ PowerEdge™ R720 and R720xd implement a new chassis design which supports an increased number of DIMMs, PCIe slots, and hard drives, relative to their predecessor servers. The following sections provide external and internal views of the systems and describe the chassis features. The R720 and R720xd are available in several chassis options with varying numbers of drive bays. Note that a chassis cannot be reconfigured or upgraded after point of purchase. The R720 supports up to sixteen 2.5" or up to eight 3.5" front-accessible, hot-plug hard drives that are secured by a removable front bezel.
