Figure 2.1 shows the disk drive.
The disk drive consists of a disk enclosure (DE),
read/write preamplifier, and controller PCA.
The disk enclosure contains the disk
media, heads, spindle motors, actuators, and a circulating air filter.
Figure 2.1 Disk drive outerview (the MHG Series and MHH Series)
(1) Disk
The outer diameter of the disk is 65 mm.
The inner diameter is 20 mm.
The
number of disks used varies with the model, as described below.
The disks are
rated at over 50,000 start/stop operations.
MHG2102AT:
3 disks
MHH2064AT:
2 disks
MHH2048AT:
2 disks
MHH2032AT:
1 disk
(2) Head
The heads are of the contact start/stop (CSS) type.
The head touches the disk
surface while the disk is not rotating and automatically lifts when the disk starts.
Figure 2.2 illustrates the configuration of the disks and heads of each model.
In
the disk surface, servo information necessary for controlling positioning and
read/write and user data are written.
Numerals 0 to 5 indicate read/write heads.
