1-6 Setup of an SLI (Scalable Link Interface) Configuration The nVIDIA® nForce 650i SLI chipset offers blistering graphics performance with the ability to bridge two NVIDIA SLI-ready PCI ExpressTM graphics cards! This section provides instructions on configuring an SLI system. A. Before You Begin 1. Understanding the SLI Configuration Jumpers: NV_SLI6 Pin 1 Pin 1 NV_SLI4 NV_SLI5 Pin 1 NV_SLI3 Pin 1 JP1 Pin 1 NV_SLI1 NV_SLI2 Normal Mode • Normal Mode (Pins 2-3 Close, Default Setting): By default, the two PCIe x16 slots are set to Normal Mode, in which the PCIE_16_1 slot operates at up to x16 but the PCIE_16_2 slot is unavailable. All the jumper caps on the SLI configuration jumpers (NV_SLI1, NV_SLI2, NV_SLI3, NV_SLI4, NV_SLI5, NV_SLI6, and JP1) are placed on pins 2-3, as shown in the illustration above. • SLI Mode (Pins 1-2 Close): In SLI Mode, you may use the two PCIe Pin 1 NV_SLI6 x16 slots for the following functions: 1. SLI Configuration: Install two SLI- Pin 1 capable PCIe x16 graphics cards of the Pin 1 NV_SLI4 NV_SLI5 NV_SLI3 same model to enable SLI functionality. Pin 1 2. Independent PCI x8 slots: Use the two NV_SLI1 NV_SLI2 PCIe x16 slots as two independent PCIe x8 slots. SLI Mode Pin 1 JP1 To enable SLI mode, all the jumper caps on the SLI configuration jumpers should be placed on pins 1-2 as shown in the illustration to the upper-right. 2. Power Requirements: Before installation, assure that the power supply you use is able to provide sufficient power to fully support an SLI configuration and other components in your system. We recommend a power supply that provides at least 20A 5V and 12V current and a minimum of 400W wattage. Note that the exact power requirements will depend on your overall system configurations. 3. Supported Operation Systems: Only Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems are currently supported by the nVIDIA® SLI technology. - 19 - Hardware Installation
