Learning Individual Key Codes

Page 12 highlights

LEARNING INDIVIDUAL KEY CODES The following keys on the RCP 7 remote may be programmed with individual IR codes that are "learned" from another remote control: Power On/Off, Mute, Sleep/Audio and DSP Surround/Title (Channel Up/Down), Volume Controls, Channel Level/Disc Menu, Speaker/DVD Setup, Digital Input/Drawer Open/Close, Delay/DVD Status Navigation, Set/Enter, Numeric Keys, Track Skip Up/Down and Transport Controls - a total of 34 buttons. Follow these steps to learn individual key codes: 1. Place the RCP 7 and the device's original remote so that their IR transmitters face each other end to end, separated by about one inch (see Figure 3). The RCP 7 remote's transmitter also serves as an IR receiver during the learning process. Figure 3 - RCP 7 and Original Remote, Head to Head 2. Make sure the RCP 7 is in the device mode you want to learn the new key code for by pressing the Input Selector, which should light in red, or green if it is a secondary source on a dual-source selector. If necessary, press a dual-source selector twice to select between the primary and secondary sources. Place the RCP 7 remote in Learning mode by pressing and holding the Learn Button until the Program Indicator flashes amber, then releasing it (see Figure 4). Figure 4 - Learning Remote Commands 3. On the RCP 7 remote, press and hold the button you wish to program with the new code until the Program Indicator remains steadily lit in amber, then release it. 4. On the device's original remote, press and hold the button whose code you wish to "learn" until the RCP 7's Program Indicator flashes green, then release it. 5. You may program additional buttons by repeating Steps 3 and 4. To exit Learning mode, press the Learn Button once. If you prefer, you may wait for the remote to "time out" and exit Learning mode on its own, but this will take about 30 seconds. If you make a mistake while learning a code, you may either learn a new code over the old code, or else erase the learned code, which returns the button to the code in the original code set that you programmed into the Input Selector. To erase a single learned code: 1. Make sure the RCP 7 is in the device mode containing the learned code you wish to erase by pressing the Input Selector, which should light in red, or green if the secondary source on a dual-source selector is active. 2. Press and hold the Learn Button until the Input Selector lights and the Program Indicator flashes amber, then release it. 3. Press the Input Selector again and release it. 4. Enter the code "777" by pressing the "7" Numeric Key three times. The Input Selector should flash each time. 5. Press the button whose learned code you wish to erase and release. The Program Indicator will flash green to confirm the erasure. 6. Repeat Step 5 for any other buttons whose learned codes you wish to erase. 7. Press the Learn Button to exit Learning mode, or wait about 30 seconds for Learning mode to time out. To erase all of the learned codes for a device mode: 1. 4. Enter the code "888" by pressing the "8" Numeric Key three times. The Input Selector should flash each time. The Program Indicator will flash green to confirm the erasure. To erase all of the learned codes on the remote for all device modes, but without erasing other user settings such as product code sets or punch-through programming, follow these steps: 1. Press and hold the Learn Button until the last-used Input Selector lights in red and the Program Indicator flashes amber, then release it. 2. Press any Input Selector and release it. 3. Enter the code "999" by pressing the "9" Numeric Key three times. The Input Selector should flash each time. The Program Indicator will go dark, and the Input Selector you pressed in Step 2 will remain lit for about 10 seconds. Then the Program Indicator will flash green to confirm the erasure, and the remote will automatically exit Learning mode. 12

the new key code for by pressing the Input Selector, which should
light in red, or green if it is a secondary source on a dual-source
selector. If necessary, press a dual-source selector twice to select

3. On the RCP 7 remote, press and hold the button you wish to program
with the new code until the Program Indicator remains steadily lit in
amber, then release it.
4. On the device’s original remote, press and hold the button whose
code you wish to “learn” until the RCP 7’s Program Indicator flashes

To exit Learning mode, press the Learn Button once. If you prefer,
you may wait for the remote to “time out” and exit Learning mode
on its own, but this will take about 30 seconds.
If you make a mistake while learning a code, you may either learn
a new code over the old code, or else erase the learned code, which
returns the button to the code in the original code set that you
programmed into the Input Selector. To erase a single learned code:
1. Make sure the RCP 7 is in the device mode containing the learned
code you wish to erase by pressing the Input Selector, which should
light in red, or green if the secondary source on a dual-source
selector is active.
2. Press and hold the Learn Button until the Input Selector lights and
the Program Indicator flashes amber, then release it.
