TROUBLESHOOTING CHECKLIST Most of the problems consumers have with their high fidelity system are due to incorrect operation. If this unit does not operate as you intended, first check the items in the following checklist. Also check other related components such as the receiver, speakers and other electrical equipment you use with this turntable. Problem Cause Remedy Platter does not revolve. •Power cord has come unplugged. •Belt is not on motor pulley. • If plugged into AC outlet on receiver, main power switch is off. •Plug power cord firmly into an AC outlet. •Replace belt onto pulley. • Turn receiver power switch on. There is no sound. • Poor contact with turntable output cords_ •Headshell is not firmly attached to tonearm. • Controls on receiver are improperly set. • Poor connections between cartridge and headshell . •Stylus cover has not been removed. •Insert plugs fully into jacks on turntable ' and receiver. •Reattach headshell. • Check all controls on the receiver_ • Plug leads from headshell fully onto car- tridge terminals. •Remove stylus cover. Sound is scratchy, distorted, unclear, lacks high end. •Dust or foreign matter on the record disc. •Scratches or warps on the record disc. •Foreign matter on stylus •Clean the disc. •Exchange disc for unflawed one. •Clean foreign matter from stylus tip (con- sult cartridge owner's manual). Stylus jumps grooves andlor sound is distroted. • Tracking force not appropriate {too light). •Stylus tip is worn. •Reset to a more appropriate tracking force (consult cartridge owner's manual) . •Replace stylus. Howling noise (low-pitched booming sound from the speakers). • Turntable is picking up vibrations from the speakers. •Move speakers farther from turntable. •Change location of turntable. •Place turntable on a firmer rest •Turn on receiver's subsonic filter, if available. • Reduce amount of bass boost or loud- ness from receiver tone controls. Buzzing sound form speakers. •Poor connections in output cords or ground wire. •Incorrect headshell connection. •Magnetic interference is being picked up from the receiver transformer. • Output cord from turntable is making con- tact with power cord. •Re-connect turntable to receiver. •Re-connection tonearm and headshell. •Change locations of receiver and turntable. •Change position of output cords so that hum is brought to its lowest possible level. •Reverse the polarity of the power cord. Sound tempo is wrong. • Record speed does not agree with setting of 33/45 speed selector. •Change setting to proper speed. •Turn off quartz lock and adjust speed con- trol knob. Warranty and After-sale Service • Please find the description of our warranty policy enclosed with this unit. •Read it carefully and keep it in a safe place. •The warranty period is one year from the date of purchase. Your bill of sale identifies this date. Therefore, it is important that you also keep the bill of sale for the length of the warranty period. • If this unit does not operate normally, first check this unit by yourself following the instructions provided in "Troubleshooting Checklist" in the manual. • If a problem persists even though you have done as suggested in the checklist, consult your authorized Harman Kardon service station. • Repair within the warranty term is made according to the prescriptions specified in the warranty card.
