INSTALL FIXTURE HOUSING (NICHE) The light fixture must be installed in or on a wall of the pool with the top of the lens opening not less than 4 inches (10.2 cm) below the normal water level of the pool except when the fixture is installed in an area of the swimming pool that is not used for swimming and the lens is adequately guarded to prevent any person from contacting it. Select a location for the light fixture(s) that will give optimum light dispersion for the pool design. • 48 in (1.22 m) (MINIMUM) TO OTHER LIGHT(S) (OPTIONAL) Ati , fit la %, Ai? '. 1 TO POWER 7 SUPPLY & SWITCH INSTALL JUNCTION BOX AND CONDUIT Select a suitable location for the junction box (Hayward SP680, SP681, or equivalent) not less than 48 inches (1.22 m) from the edge of the pool. Run conduit from the niche up to the junction box such that the junction box is not less than 8 inches (20 cm) above the maximum pool water level, or not less than 4 inches (10 cm) above the ground, whichever is greater. Additional conduit should be run from the junction box to the power supply, switch panel, pool/spa controller, etc. Snake the 3-conductor cord, and a #8 AWG copper ground wire through the conduit outlet of the fixture housing (niche), into the conduit and up to the junction box. DO NOT CUT EXCESS CORD. Leave adequate cord coiled up in the niche so that the fixture will be able to be raised to the pool deck for servicing. Cut off extra cord at the junction box. CONNECT GROUND WIRE TO NICHE ••• Connect the #8 AWG copper ground wire to the grounding connector inside the fixture housing (niche). This termination must be encapsulated using a listed potting compound* to a thickness of at least 1/8 inch (4 mm) ENCAPSULATE in accordance with article 680 of the N.E.C. * 3M Inc. Scotch Cast Wet Niche Potting Compound No. 2135 (U.L. File E130394) or equivalent. #8 AWG COPPER WIRE MOUNT THE LIGHT FIXTURE Coil up the extra cord and insert it in the fixture housing (niche) behind the light fixture. To mount the light fixture, insert the fixture into the niche with the mounting screw at the top (12 o'clock). Place the bottom hook in first (6 o'clock), then tilt the top of the fixture up and secure it with the mounting screw. Be sure the hook on the bottom catches on the niche. When removing the fixture from the niche, unscrew the mounting screw, tilt the top of the fixture out, and lift it up and out. When mounting the light fixture, ensure that the mounting screw threads through the steel grounding tab on the back plate of the light fixture.
