Configure the external SCSI channel for Fast mode, as described below: The factory default setting for both SCSI channels is Ultra-2 SCSI. Internal devices are supported in Ultra-2 mode (80 MB/sec) while external devices are supported in Fast mode (20 MB/sec) only. You must reconfigure the external channel to Fast mode. Channel A is usually configured for internal operation, and Channel B is usually configured for external operation when needed. If you are installing the internal to external kit, set the appropriate channel to fast mode with the configuration utility. To run the Symbios Configuration Utility: A. Reboot the computer and press CTRL-C immediately when the "Press Ctrl-C to start Symbios Configuration Utility..." message appears on the screen. If you miss the CTRL-C prompt, reboot and try again. B. Choose Channel B (external SCSI) by highlighting the channel and then press Enter.You can only select one channel at a time. Once you select a channel, select Device Selections of the next menu to see a selection table of the following options for each device on the SCSI bus: ∗ Sync Rate ∗ Scan Bus ∗ Data Width ∗ Scan LUNs ∗ Disconnect ∗ Queue Tags ∗ SCSI Timeout ∗ Init. Boot C. Select SYM53C896 and press Enter to set ALL devices on the SCSI channel. D. Navigate to Sync Rate field and press Enter. At the pop-up menu, select 20 to set transfer rate. E. Configure the external SCSI channel for Fast mode, as described below:
