Booting from the Embedded SCSI Controller Non-disk array systems boot from the drive with the lowest SCSI address. HP recommends SCSI ID 0 for the boot drive. If you configure the boot drive with another SCSI ID, your system may not boot when additional SCSI drives are installed. Installing Windows NT 3.51 1. Boot the HP NetServer using the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM. Run Configuration Assistant and follow the instructions to create a driver diskette. The diskette is created as part of Express Configuration. You can also create the diskette via the Custom Configuration or the Diskette Library. In the Diskette Library, select the diskette labeled "HP NetServer MS-Windows NT 3.51 Drivers Diskette." Label the diskette "HP NetServer MS-Windows NT 3.51 Drivers Diskette" using the label shipped with the system. This procedure refers to this diskette as the "Drivers Diskette". 2. Boot the system using the Windows NT Setup/Boot Diskette. 3. Install Windows NT using the diskettes shipped in the Microsoft Windows NT package. Follow the Windows NT installation procedures and select Custom setup. 4. At the next screen where Windows NT would auto detect Mass Storage Controllers, press S to "Skip SCSI drivers and Mass Storage Detection." 5. At the next screen, press S again to configure additional SCSI adapters. The Windows NT installer displays a list of options. Select "Other (Requires Disk provided by a hardware manufacturer)." 6. The installation program prompts you to insert the "Manufacturer-supplied hardware support disk" into drive A. Insert the Drivers Diskette and press enter. 7. A window displays "Adaptec AHA-2740 / AIC 77xx NT". Select this driver and press Enter to install. This driver supports the embedded SCSI Controller and the HP EISA Fast SCSI-2 Controller (D2078B). Repeat step 5. Select the "Hewlett-Packard NetRAID Adapter" if your system has the HP NetRAID Adapter. Press Enter to install. Repeat step 5. Select the "Hewlett-Packard Disk Array Driver" if your system has the HP Disk Array Controller. Press Enter to install. Repeat step 5. Select the "Adaptec AHA-2940 / AIC78xx NT Driver" if your system has the Adaptec 2940 SCSI Controller. Press Enter to install. NOTE HP recommends that you install the driver for the booting controller first. The driver installation sequence above assumes that the boot drive is attached to the embedded controller.

Installing Windows NT 3.51
1. Boot the HP NetServer using the HP NetServer Navigator CD-ROM.
Run
Configuration Assistant and follow the instructions to create a driver
diskette.
The diskette is created as part of Express Configuration.
You
can also create the diskette via the Custom Configuration
or the Diskette
Library.
In the Diskette Library, select the diskette labeled "HP NetServer
MS-Windows NT 3.51 Drivers Diskette."
Label the diskette "HP NetServer
MS-Windows NT 3.51 Drivers Diskette" using the label shipped with the
system.
This procedure refers to this diskette as the "Drivers Diskette".
2.
Boot the system using the Windows NT Setup/Boot Diskette.

Install Windows NT using the diskettes shipped in the Microsoft Windows
NT package. Follow the Windows NT installation procedures and select
Custom setup.

At the next screen where Windows NT would auto detect Mass Storage

At the next screen, press S again to configure additional SCSI adapters.

Press Enter to install.
Repeat step 5.
Select the "Adaptec AHA-2940 / AIC78xx NT Driver" if your
system has the Adaptec 2940 SCSI Controller.
Press Enter to install.
