Dealing with a Boot Failure If your usual boot device (typically a disk) is not responding as it should. you must attempt to boot from the disk (or another boot device) by selecting it manually. To boot a device manually, follow these steps: 1. Turn off the power to the workstation, wait a few seconds. then turn the pow- er back on. c1 20 Press Esc . In a few seconds, this message appears: Terminating selection process. A short time later, this message appears: Searching for potential boot devices. To terminate search, press and hold the ESCAPE key.
