Using Your Computer Caring for Your Computer Caring for Your Computer Here are some recommendations for maintaining your computer during everyday use, as well as preventing potential physical damage or data loss. To protect your hard disk drive Hard disk drives, like other internal components, are not indestructible and can be damaged by inappropriate handling and operation. = Avoid bumps or jolts. = Do not operate the computer while traveling over bumpy terrain. = Standby, hibernate or shut down the computer before transporting it. This turns off the hard drive. To take care of your computer = Provide adequate ventilation around the computer. Ensure that the notebook is sitting on a flat surface, so that air is able to flow underneath the unit. See that there is adequate clearance to the rear and sides of the computer, so that fan vents are not blocked. = Be sure to shut down, hibernate, or standby the computer before putting it in a carrying case or other enclosed space. = Do not pick up or carry the computer by the display. = Do not use the computer outside in the rain or snow (or other inclement weather) or in any extremes of temperature or humidity. 44 Reference Guide
