Information You Will Need In addition to this document, you will need the following information: ■ HP StorageWorks Virtual Array Installation Guide. The steps in this guide will be used when bringing the upgraded VA 7410/7110 back on line. ■ HP StorageWorks Virtual Array User and Service Guide. The detailed instruction for many of the hardware replacement procedures included in the upgrade are included in this book. These guides can be downloaded from the Manuals section of the following web site: http://www.hp.com/support/va7400 ■ Quick Connect Guide(s) and Connectivity Streams Documents- these documents provide detailed, operating system-specific configuration and installation information. These guides can be downloaded from the following internal HP web site: http://hpso.rose.hp.com/spock/#NASL Planning the Upgrade Here are some things to consider when planning the upgrade: ■ Changing the physical configuration - because the entire array must be powered off to perform the upgrade, this is an ideal time to move or rearrange the array hardware components. This may be necessary if additional disk enclosures are being added as part of the upgrade. Note The remaining items apply to the VA 7410 only. ■ Capacity requirements - the VA 7410 requires more disk capacity for image disks. This additional capacity must be available on the array. If a VA 7100 is being upgraded, the impact on available capacity may be substantial because of the two redundancy groups used on the VA 7410. Before upgrading a VA 7100, a careful assessment should be made of how much additional capacity will be required on the array to create the desired LUN configuration. ■ LUN configuration - when upgrading a VA 7400, the impact on the LUN configuration will be minimal because the VA 7410 and VA 7400 both use two redundancy groups. Upgrading a VA 7100 will have more impact because the array is moving from one redundancy group to two. The LUN 2 Upgrading a VA 7100/7400 to a VA 7410/7110
