3 Preconfiguring for the HP MSA VDS hardware provider This chapter lists hardware and software components that support the HP MSA VDS hardware provider and explains how to preconfigure the disk array and Windows 2003 servers for use with the hardware provider. You must complete the procedures in this chapter before you install and configure the HP hardware provider. See the release notes and contact HP Support for components tested and approved by HP. Hardware • HP StorageWorks MSA disk array • Windows 2003 VDS Server: Contains the Microsoft VDS Service and HP MSA VDS hardware provider. • Fibre Channel Host bus adapter (HBA): Installs in the Windows 2003 VDS server to provide FC connections to the MSA array. The HP MSA VDS hardware provider supports only certain Emulex and Qlogic HBAs and the SCSI STOR miniport driver, not SCSI Miniport. • Fibre Channel switch and cabling: Connects the HP MSA VDS hardware provider server to the array using a Fibre Channel SAN.
