The switch automatically reboots after the upgrade is completed. Troubleshooting possible error conditions If the firmware does not download properly or the upgrade fails, verify the following: 1. The COM port you entered is correct. 2. No other program, DOS window, or shell is open that uses the COM port. 3. No other copy of the ApplianceUpdate.exe utility is currently running. 4. A standard serial cable is being used. 5. In the selected COM port Advanced Port settings, the FIFO buffers are selected and the receive buffer is set to High. ATTENTION: While upgrading, do not use the computer for anything else or switch between windows. Close any other open windows. If the upgrade was unsuccessful (such as could occur with a power outage), repeat the procedure. Upgrading firmware on COs Firmware for the COs is packaged with the rack console switch firmware. Use OSCAR to make sure the connection option is running the latest firmware available in the two following cases: • After installing a new console server when you are using COs that may not have up-to- date firmware • After downloading and upgrading updated firmware for the rack console switch Upgrading CO firmware 1. Troubleshooting possible error conditions

Upgrading firmware on COs
Firmware for the COs is packaged with the rack console switch firmware. Use OSCAR to make

After installing a new console server when you are using COs that may not have up-to-
date firmware

After downloading and upgrading updated firmware for the rack console switch
Upgrading CO firmware
1.
Access the Commands window. If needed, see “Accessing the Commands window” on
page 40,
