Installing a CD or DVD drive The following notes describe the types of CD and DVD drives that the server supports and other information that you must consider when you install a CD or DVD drive: v The server supports one CD or DVD drive. v The server supports the following types of Ultrabay Enhanced integrated drive electronics (IDE) drives: - CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo - CD-RW - DVD-ROM v Operating the server with an unsupported CD or DVD drive configuration might cause unpredictable results. For a list of supported drives for the server, see http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/. v If a CD or DVD drive is installed in the server and you have to remove the front hard disk drive cage from the server, you must first remove the CD or DVD drive. Therefore, after you have finished reinstalling the front hard disk drive cage in the server, reinstall or replace the CD or DVD drive in the server, if you plan to use a CD or DVD drive. To install or replace a CD or DVD drive, complete the following steps. 1. If you are replacing a removed CD or DVD drive with a new drive, make sure that: v You have all the cables and other equipment that is specified in the documentation that comes with the new drive. v You have checked the instructions that come with the new drive to determine whether you must set any switches or jumpers on the drive. v You have removed the drive mounting clip on the side of the old drive and have it available for installation on the new drive. The
following
notes
describe
the
types
of
CD
and
DVD
drives
that
the
server
supports
and
other
information
that
you
must
consider
when
you
install
a
CD
or
DVD
drive:
v
The
server
supports
one
CD
or
DVD
drive.
v
The
server
supports
the
following
types
of
Ultrabay
Enhanced
integrated
drive
electronics
(IDE)
drives:
CD-RW/DVD-ROM
combo
CD-RW
DVD-ROM
v
Operating
the
server
with
an
unsupported
CD
or
DVD
drive
configuration
might
cause
unpredictable
results.
For
a
list
of
supported
drives
for
the
server,
see
v
If
a
CD
or
DVD
drive
is
installed
in
the
server
and
you
have
to
remove
the
front
hard
disk
drive
cage
from
the
server,
you
must
first
remove
the
CD
or
DVD
drive.
Therefore,
after
you
have
finished
reinstalling
the
front
hard
disk
drive
cage
in
the
server,
reinstall
or
replace
the
CD
or
DVD
drive
in
the
server,
if
you
plan
to
use
a
CD
or
DVD
drive.
To
install
or
replace
a
CD
or
DVD
drive,
complete
the
following
steps.
1.
If
you
are
replacing
a
removed
CD
or
DVD
drive
with
a
new
drive,
make
sure
that:
v
You
have
all
the
cables
and
other
equipment
that
is
specified
in
the
documentation
that
comes
with
the
new
drive.
v
You
have
checked
the
instructions
that
come
with
the
new
drive
to
determine
whether
you
must
set
any
switches
or
jumpers
on
the
drive.
v
You
have
removed
the
drive

drive
