Installing a CD or DVD drive The following notes describe the types of CD and DVD drives that the server supports and other information that you must consider when you install a CD or DVD drive: v The server supports one CD or DVD drive. v The server supports the following types of Ultrabay Enhanced integrated drive electronics (IDE) drives: - CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo - CD-RW - DVD-ROM v Operating the server with an unsupported CD or DVD drive configuration might cause unpredictable results. For a list of supported drives for the server, see http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/. v If a CD or DVD drive is installed in the server and you have to remove the front hard disk drive cage from the server, you must first remove the CD or DVD drive. Therefore, after you have finished reinstalling the front hard disk drive cage in the server, reinstall or replace the CD or DVD drive in the server, if you plan to use a CD or DVD drive. To install or replace a CD or DVD drive, complete the following steps. 1. If you are replacing a removed CD or DVD drive with a new drive, make sure that: v You have all the cables and other equipment that is specified in the documentation that comes with the new drive. v You have checked the instructions that come with the new drive to determine whether you must set any switches or jumpers on the drive. v You have removed the drive mounting clip on the side of the old drive and have it available for installation on the new drive.
