BASIC OPERATION 4 ■■Sending a Distress call NEVER MAKE A DISTRESS CALL IF YOUR SHIP OR A PERSON IS NOT IN AN EMERGENCY. A DISTRESS CALL SHOULD BE MADE ONLY WHEN IMMEDIATE HELP IS NEEDED. ee After sending, the following screen is displayed. You should send a Distress call if, in the opinion of the Master, the ship or a person is in distress and requires immediate assistance. • E mergency channel (Channel 70) is automatically selected to send a Distress call. rr When receiving the acknowledgement: • Alarm sounds. • The following window is displayed. 1 2 NOTE: A distress alert default contains: 3 - Nature of distress: Undesignated distress (Simple call) 4 - Position information: 5 The latest GPS or manual input position is held for 23.5 hours, or until turning 6 OFF the transceiver. 7 8 9 10 11 DDSimple call 12 qq Confirm no Distress call is being received. 13 ww Lift up the key cover, then hold down [DISTRESS] until "Transmitting" is 14 displayed to send the Distress call. tt Push any [Alarm Off] . 15 yy Push any [Close Call RCVD Window] . uu Hold down [PTT] to announce your 16 situation. ii Push [Standby Mode] to return to the Main screen. 10
