Binary Mode Automatic Threshold Selecting Automatic Threshold automatically sets Brightness, Contrast, White Level From Paper, Gamma, Noise Reduction, and Image Emphasis in accordance with the scanning resolution. Automatic Threshold is valid only when a binary mode is specified in Mode. Select the mode best suited for the application: • Mode 1-for dark documents. • Mode 2-for normal documents. • Mode 3-for light documents. Halftone Mode Automatic Separation When Automatic Separation is enabled, the scanner automatically recognizes and separates text and photo. This function automatically sets tonal gradation type. The text is scanned in binary mode and the photo image areas are scanned in dither mode specified in Dither. Automatic Separation is valid only when a binary mode is specified in Mode. Binary mode Error Diffusion Automatic Separation NOTES: Depending on the document, the text and photograph(s) may not be perfectly separated.
