Automatic Separation (Halftone Mode) When Automatic Separation is enabled, the scanner automatically recognizes and separates text and photo. This function automatically sets tonal gradation type. The text is scanned in binary mode and the photo image areas are scanned in dither mode specified in Halftone (Dither). Automatic Separation is valid only when a binary mode is specified in Image Type. Remove Shadow Binary mode Error Diffusion Automatic Separation NOTES: Depending on the document, the text and photograph(s) may not be perfectly separated. If photographs are always located in the same positions, instead of using Automatic Separation, you could define a region and select a dither pattern for that region. Enable Remove Shadow to remove any black lines which may appear at the top and bottom of a scanned image.
