▍ Preface Precautions 1) Access can only be gained by service persons or by users who have been trained on the restrictions and the precautions for this specific site. 2) Access is by means of at least one of the following, special tool, lock and key, or other means of security, and is controlled by the authority responsible for the location. 3) Rack Mount Installation Instructions: ◙ Elevated Operating Ambient - If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack as- sembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient. Therefore, consideration should be given to installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer. ◙ Reduced Air Flow - Installation of the equipment in a rack should be such that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised. ◙ Mechanical Loading - Mounting of the equipment in the rack should be such that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading. ◙ Circuit Overloading - Consideration should be given to the connection of the equipment to the supply circuit and the effect that overloading of the circuits might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern. ◙ Reliable Earthing - Reliable earthing of rack-mounted equipment should be maintained. Particular attention should be given to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (e.g. use of power strips). iv

Preface
Precautions
Access can only be ga±ned by serv±ce persons or by users who have been
trained on the restrictions and the precautions for this specific site.
Access ±s by means of at least one of the follow±ng, spec±al tool, lock and key,
or other means of secur±ty, and ±s controlled by the author±ty respons±ble for
the locat±on.
Rack Mount Installat±on Instruct±ons:
Elevated Operat±ng Amb±ent - If ±nstalled ±n a closed or mult±-un±t rack as-
sembly, the operat±ng amb±ent temperature of the rack env±ronment may
be greater than room amb±ent. Therefore, cons±derat±on should be g±ven
to ±nstall±ng the equ±pment ±n an env±ronment compat±ble w±th the max±-
mum ambient temperature (Tma) specified by the manufacturer.
Reduced A±r Flow - Installat±on of the equ±pment ±n a rack should be such
that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment
±s not comprom±sed.
Mechan±cal Load±ng - Mount±ng of the equ±pment ±n the rack should be
such that a hazardous cond±t±on ±s not ach±eved due to uneven mechan±-
cal load±ng.
C±rcu±t Overload±ng - Cons±derat±on should be g±ven to the connect±on of
the equ±pment to the supply c±rcu±t and the effect that overload±ng of the
c±rcu±ts m±ght have on overcurrent protect±on and supply w±r±ng. Appropr±-
ate cons±derat±on of equ±pment nameplate rat±ngs should be used when
address±ng th±s concern.
Rel±able Earth±ng - Rel±able earth±ng of rack-mounted equ±pment should
be ma±nta±ned. Part±cular attent±on should be g±ven to supply connec-
t±ons other than d±rect connect±ons to the branch c±rcu±t (e.g. use of power
str±ps).
