Setup Menu AF Assist d button M z (Setup menu) (A 104) M AF assist Specify whether or not the AF-assist illuminator is used to help the camera focus when the subject is poorly lit. Auto (default setting) AF-assist illuminator will be used to assist the focus operation when the subject is poorly lit. The AF-assist illuminator has a range of about 6.0 m (19 ft.) at the maximum wide-angle position and 3.0 m (9 ft. 10 in.) at the maximum telephoto position. However, the AF-assist illumination will not turn on in some scene modes even if Auto is selected (A 36-43). Off AF-assist illuminator is disabled. Note that shutter sound cannot be heard when shooting in continuous shooting or BSS scene mode or when recording a movie even when set to On.
