En Digital Camera D3000 Quick Start Guide This guide provides first-time users with information on taking photographs with the D3000, on copying photographs to a computer, and printing photographs. Complete information on using your Nikon digital camera can be found in the User's Manual and Help menu of each supplied software application. Confirm that the package contains the following items: First Steps q Attach the strap. Attach the strap securely to the two eyelets on the camera body as shown below. w Insert the battery. Check to be sure the battery is in the correct orientation. BS-1 accessory shoe cover DK-20 rubber eyecup Set switches as shown (if applicable). D3000 camera BF-1A body cap Taking Photographs EN-EL9a rechargeable Li-ion battery (with terminal cover) MH-23 Quick Charger (with power cord; shape of cord depends on country of sale) AN-DC3 strap DK-5 eyepiece cap UC-E4 USB cable Quick Start Guide (this guide) User's Manual Software Suite CD-ROM Warranty Purchasers of the lens kit option should confirm that the package also includes a lens. Memory cards are sold separately. x Charge the battery. Plug the quick charger in and insert the battery. An exhausted battery will fully charge in about an hour and forty minutes. M v Frame a photograph. Frame a photograph in the viewfinder with the main subject in at least one of the eleven focus points. For information on focusing the viewfinder, see page 23 of the User's Manual. Focus point M b Focus and shoot. 5.1 Press the shutter-release button halfway to focus. A beep will sound and the in-focus indicator (I) will appear in the viewfinder. Check to be sure the card is in the correct orientation. 4.0GB r Attach a lens. Be careful to prevent dust from entering the camera when the lens or body cap is removed. Keeping marks aligned, position lens on camera, then rotate until lens clicks into place. Autofocus is available with AF-S lenses. The lens kit option includes an AF-S lens; for information on other lenses that can be used with the D3000, see page 157 of the User's Manual. M x Choose a language and set the camera clock. 2.1 Turn the camera on. A languageselection dialog will be displayed. Viewing and Deleting Photographs To view photographs: Press K. 2.2 Select a language and press J. Use the multi selector to select a time zone, choose a date format, turn daylight saving time on or off, and set the camera clock; press J after each step to proceed to the next dialog. M c Ready the camera. Remove the lens cap. Hold the handgrip in your right hand and cradle the camera body or lens with your left. To delete the current photograph: Press O twice. To view other pictures, press the multi selector left or right. GUIDE Mode When the mode dial is rotated to g, you can shoot, view, and delete photographs and set up the camera using a convenient onscreen guide.
