Replacing a Hard-Disk Drive Hard-Disk Drive Hot Swap Feature A hot swap button is located on the front panel of each hard-disk drive. Pressing the hot swap button allows you to hot swap hard-disk drives if you have configured and enabled disk mirroring. Caution hard-disk drives are susceptible to damage from shock. Handle them with care. Caution To protect the IP1200 Series and the memory modules from electrostatic discharge damage, make sure you are properly grounded before you touch these components. Use a grounding wrist strap and follow the instructions provided with the wrist strap before you handle the components or open the appliance. The grounding plug on the front of the appliance (shown in Figure 1 on page 20) provides a chassis grounding point. If you do not have a grounding wrist strap, make sure you are properly grounded before you touch any electronic component. Caution If you fail to use the following procedure when you remove the hard-disk drive, the drive might become damaged or you might lose data. Caution The operating system is disabled if all of the following occurs: • Both hard-disk drive slots are occupied. • The appliance is turned on. • Disk mirroring is not enabled. • You press the hot swap button on the source hard-disk drive. Before You Begin To upgrade or replace a Nokia IP1200 Series appliance hard-disk drive, you need: „ Physical access to the appliance „ Nokia hard-disk drive kit and accompanying documentation „ Phillips-head screwdriver Removing and Replacing a Hard-Disk Drive If you have disk mirroring configured on your Nokia IP1200 Series appliance, you can remove a failed hard-disk drive without shutting down the appliance. Hard-Disk Drive Hot Swap Feature
A hot swap button is located on the front panel of each hard-disk drive. Pressing the hot swap
button allows you to hot swap hard-disk drives if you have configured and enabled disk
mirroring.
Caution
hard-disk drives are susceptible to damage from shock. Handle them with care.
Caution
To protect the IP1200 Series and the memory modules from electrostatic discharge
damage, make sure you are properly grounded before you touch these components.
Use a grounding wrist strap and follow the instructions provided with the wrist strap
before you handle the components or open the appliance. The grounding plug on the

If you have disk mirroring configured on your Nokia IP1200 Series appliance, you can remove a
failed hard-disk drive without shutting down the appliance.
