en CONNECTION & SETUP IMPORTANT Please refer to the separate safety instructions for important product safety information prior to installation or use of the product.. Connecting the adapter 1. Connect the IP40 to the data network. Put one end of the Ethernet cable (supplied) into the IP40 network port and the other end into a data network Ethernet port. 2. Optionally, you may also connect an Ethernet cable from your PC (not supplied) into the IP40 allowing the IP40 and PC to share a single Ethernet network socket. 3. If your data network port supports Power over Ethernet (PoE), the unit will power up indicated by the power LED flashing green. If you are not using PoE, you may connect a Plantronics power adapter (not supplied) into the IP40 and plug it into your power source. The power indicator will be lit solid green once the device has completed the start-up routine. 4. Connect the Quick Disconnect™ cord (QD) into the headset port and route the cable along the underside of the IP40. 5. Plug a Plantronics headset into the Quick Disconnect cord (QD). Setting the receive volume The IP40 has a volume control which you can use to adjust the volume of your caller's voice. Step the volume up and down by pressing the volume control button (+ and -) until the listen loudness is set to a comfortable level. MANAGING CALLS Using the mute button The IP40 has a mute button so that you can still hear the caller, but they cannot hear you. To activate the mute function, press the mute button so that it is lit solid red. The caller will not hear you. Press the button again and the red light will extinguish and your caller will now hear you. Leaving the desk during a call If you need to leave your desk during a call, you can keep your headset on and simply disconnect the QD connectors. If your host system supports a "hold" feature, disconnecting the QD will put your call on hold. When the QD is reconnected, the call can resume. Whenever a call is on hold, the call answer button will be lit orange. 4 CALL ANSWER/END Answering a new call When a call is received, the IP40 will send a ring alert to the headset and the call answer button will flash red. To answer the call, firmly tap the call answer button for a duration of less than 0.5 seconds. The button indicator will be lit solid green when the call is connected. If the unit is configured for auto answer, an alert tone will be heard in the headset and the call immediately connected. Ending a call To end the call, push the answer/end button for a duration of 1-5 seconds. The button indicator will extinguish. Note If your IP40 has been configured to disable the end call feature, the call answer/end button will be disabled during a call and pressing it will have no effect. Message waiting indication When configured by your administrator, the IP40 can indicate if there is a message waiting in your voicemail box. When a message is waiting, the answer/end LED flashes slowly RED (on: 0.5 seconds off: 2.5 seconds on). Note The LED stops flashing if any other event occurs (such as an inbound call). TROUBLESHOOTING FAULT INDICATION When the call answer button is lit solid red, this indicates that there is a fault condition. Pressing the call answer button in this state will cause a voice message to play in the headset describing the fault that has been detected. The error message will be played in English. Please contact your system administrator to correct this error. PROBLEM I cannot hear callers. Possible Cause Headset cable not plugged in correctly Low listen volume Remedy Check connections to your headset, Ethernet and power sockets. Ensure that the power indicator is lit solid green. Make a test call and increase the listen volume to a comfortable level following the instructions described earlier in this user guide. 5 en

Connecting the adapter
1.
Connect the IP40 to the data network. Put one end of the Ethernet cable
(supplied) into the IP40 network port and the other end into a data network
Ethernet port.
