Digital Output
BD and HD DVD discs may include three audio streams.
- Primary Audio : Main audio sound track of the disc
- Secondary Audio : Provides audio for the PIP window of an HD DVD
- Effect Audio : You will hear a sound every time an item is
selected in a BD/HD DVD menu.
PCM :
Select this when your equipment (Home theater or
Receiver) does not decode Dolby Digital. Primary,
Secondary and Effect audio is possible.
Bitstream(Re-encode) :
Re-encodes the Primary,
Secondary and Effect audio streams for DTS.
Bitstream(Audiophile) :
Provides a higher level of audio quality when watching a disc. Only Primary
audio (main movie soundtrack) will be heard.
If you have selected a LPCM sound track on a disc, the output will automatically be set to PCM.
Be sure to select the correct Digital Output or you will hear no sound or a loud noise.
When playing a Dolby Digital movie make sure the Digital Output is set to Bitstream.
If the HDMI device (Receiver, TV) is not compatible with compressed formats (Dolby digital, DTS), the audio
signal outputs as PCM.
Secondary and Effect audio will not be heard with regular DVDs.
Some BD and HD DVD discs do not have Secondary and Effect audio.
