Basic Operation Basic Operation (VCR) Playing a Pre-Recorded Video Cassette Tape Playing the Tape 1. Insert the video cassette tape. - For more information on the safety tab, see page 74. 2. If the tape doesn't begin to play automatically, press the (Play/Pause) button. 3. Pausing Play While a tape is playing, press the (Play/Pause) button when you want to interrupt play. The tape pauses temporarily. Press the (Play/Pause) button to resume playing the tape. - The VCR does not play sound while a video tape is paused. - If you see white lines on the screen, see "Using Automatic Tracking" on page 65. Special VCR Playback Features While a videotape is playing, you can enjoy a variety of special playback features, including Still, Frame Advance, Skip, Repeat, and more. Press the Play/Pause button again to resume normal playback. 1. Frame Advance In the pause mode, press F.ADV to advance to the next frame. 2. Fps/Rps Review In Play mode, press the (Forward) or (Rewind) to review at two speeds: - Picture Search: Press and release to advance the tape forward or backward at 5 times normal speed. - Jet Search: Press and hold down the SEARCH button, then release it to play back at the normal speed. 3. Skip In Play mode, press the SKIP button to move ahead exactly 30 seconds. Press the SKIP button repeatedly up to 4 times to move ahead 2 minutes. 4. Repeat - In Play mode, press the REPEAT button to review the last 5 seconds of tape (SP mode). - In Play mode, press the REPEAT button to review the last 15 seconds of tape (SLP mode). 7
