When you move from Rome to New York: [A] Rome time : +1 hour from GMT [B] New York time : -5 hours from GMT So the time difference between Rome and New York is: [B] - [A] = (-5) - (+1) = -6 (hours) 8 You should move the hour hand back 6 hours.
